Seven of the latest and most unmissable events in the world of architecture and design are happening in the US this October.

A list of design festivals across New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Denver is among this month's suggested events. Not to mention major professional conferences such as this year's ACADIA and Palm Springs' highly-anticipated Modernism Week. The captivating "Unsupervised" installation by Refik Anadol is one of the must-see exhibitions on view through October at MoMA.

#1 Archtober in New York: Month of October

The renowned architecture and design festival in New York City celebrates the city's illustrious built environment with events, exhibitions, and much more. Archtober even includes an online workshop on the history of New York City, an architectural cruise, and a lecture on building materials fit for climate change, among others

#2 Open House Chicago: October 14 to 15

For one weekend only, the Chicago Architecture Center gives the public the chance to go behind the scenes of architecturally, culturally, and historically significant sites across Chicago. This free annual festival is one of the largest events of its kind in the world-explore 170+ sites in 20+ neighborhoods.

#3 Modernism Week in Palm Springs: October 19 to 22

Modernism Week in October is a four-day "mini-Modernism Week" with over 50 events, including tours, talks, and parties in unusual spaces that aren't usually accessible to the general public. The Palm Springs Modernism Fall Show is also a part of it, and on October 20 there will be an opening night preview party where participants may enjoy a cocktail reception, live music, and an early opportunity to purchase goods at the show before it is available to the general public. More than 45 prestigious national and international decorative and fine arts dealers will participate in the Fall Show.

#4 Atlanta Design Festival: October 14 to 22

The Atlanta Design Festival is a venue for gathering and connecting people in the creative sectors. To highlight Atlanta as a global powerhouse and developer of ideas, the festival invites the best creative leaders and organizations to organize installations, exhibitions, film screenings, conference panels, and more. Informative design and architecture tours are also included in the lineup.

#5 ACADIA in Denver: October 21 to 28

This year's The Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA) theme, "Habits of the Anthropocene," will be explored and discussed by academics, researchers, professionals, and technologists working in the architecture field through lectures, panel discussions, and workshops that are available both online and in-person.

#6 Refik Anadol: Unsupervised in New York's MoMA: October 1 to 29

Another cutting-edge work of art by media artist Refik Anadol, "Unsupervised" is on exhibit at MoMA and employs artificial intelligence to interpret and reimagine more than two centuries of the museum's collection. Based on the MoMA collection, this immersive experience continually creates new and fantastical digital artworks. The team at Anadol developed a machine-learning model to analyze the data and take into account current environmental conditions, creating a dynamic exploration of imagination, creativity, and modern art.

#7 Chicago Architecture Biennial: Until February 11, 2024

An important venue for showcasing the global impact of innovative thinking and creativity in architecture and design is the Chicago Architecture Biennial. This year's subject and focus, "This is a Rehearsal," offers a comprehensive program made up of events and exhibitions with over 100 cultural collaborators. The festival is currently in its fifth iteration.
