Construction in Washington Street Corridor

Assemblies of water and wastewater infrastructure dating back to 1902 in north central Spokane will commence with the initial phase of the construction at the intersection of Washington Street and Boone Avenue. The intersection is planned to be blocked for two weeks. Accordingly, if you are driving in either the north or south direction, the City of Spokane recommends using Division Street, Monroe Street, and the Maple/Ash Corridor. You are strongly encouraged to utilize Maxwell Avenue if you are heading east or west. Planning and allowing extra time is advised.

Moreover, the city claims that you can use nearby parking lots if you plan to attend a performance at the Spokane Arena, ONE Spokane Stadium, The Podium, or the Spokane Civic Theater. As stated by the City of Spokane, you can reach the parking lot of Riverfront Park by driving north on Washington Street at North River Travel. Alternatively, you can travel south on Division and then west on North River Drive.

After completing the work at the intersection, personnel will start a grind and overlay project extending from Maxwell Avenue to the Spokane River. The project, anticipated to take place between April 22 and May 14, will keep one lane open in each direction throughout. In addition, between May 20 and November, the remaining phases of the projects involving the Washington-Stevens corridor will be carried out. These will include grinding and surfacing renovations to Washington Street and Stevens Street between Spokane Falls Boulevard and 3 Avenue, as well as repairs to the deck of the Washington Street Bridge.

Importance of Road Maintenance

One of the most valuable assets the public possesses is road infrastructure. A community depends on a well-developed road network to gain access to jobs, medical care, educational opportunities, and social relationships. This factor significantly influences the expansion of a country's economy on a national and international scale and the development of a community on a local level.

As mentioned, think about life without bike lanes, walkways, and paved roads for a moment. The importance of a reliable transportation network, and the road system in particular, to all aspects of our life, both in the United Kingdom and throughout the developed world, becomes immediately apparent.

According to surveys, it is vital to maintain road infrastructure adequately to sustain and maximize such benefits. However, the road network has seen irreparable damage due to a backlog of maintenance that still needs to be completed. If insufficient maintenance is performed, roads may require replacement or significant repairs after only a few years have passed. The rapid spread of deterioration over a road network leads to dramatically increased expenses and a substantial financial impact on the economy and the people living in the area.

Considering this, it is imperative that those in charge of making decisions acknowledge the significance of upkeep. Due to inadequate asset management, numerous road networks throughout the EU are deteriorating. Nevertheless, this is rarely acknowledged. Road Asset Management programs or systems can be implemented in various countries to the advantage of various road stakeholders. These programs or systems protect the assets through preventive maintenance and balance long-term and short-term needs.
