AI Revolutionizes Architectural Design but Fails to Capture Islamic Cultural Nuances, Study Reveals
Even though technological advancements can provide individuals with convenience by simplifying their work, they are only sometimes accurate. A recent study has revealed that Artificial Intelligence could not accurately represent the architectural design of the cultural nuances of Islam.

AI Fails To Capture Islamic Architectural Designs
According to Dr. Ahmad W. Sukkar, a scientist at Sharjah University's Department of Architectural Engineering, the research's primary author, artificial intelligence-image generators such as Stable Diffusion and Midjourney have caused a revolution in architectural design processes in recent years. These generators have enabled architects to create sophisticated and imaginative designs.
As mentioned, many examples that can be seen online indicate a combination of poor historical knowledge and shortcomings in the datasets utilized by AI picture generators. This is even though AI can produce imaginative design solutions. Incorporating artificial intelligence technologies calls for cautious thought in culturally and historically insensitive sectors such as Islamic architecture.
In addition to their capacity to generate stylized content and realistic visual imagery, artificial intelligence models such as Stable Diffusion and Midjourney assert that they are particularly adept at producing creative and architectural images and designs characterized by nuanced attributes abundant in texture and detail. With the use of text and visual prompts, they enable artists and architects to create one-of-a-kind photorealistic images.
Moreover, the authors acknowledge that artificial intelligence tools can produce designs influenced by traditional Islamic architectural styles. However, the authors also believe that architects face advantages and challenges when navigating the combination of AI and Islamic architecture.
Although artificial intelligence image generators have the potential to be a valuable tool in the Islamic design process, it is crucial to exercise caution when using them. However, artificial intelligence should be founded on human expertise and bolstered by a wealth of knowledge despite its potential to create novel and thrilling opportunities.
It is essential to preserve the human touch, artistry, and adherence to the fundamental principles of architecture in this context. Finding a happy medium is of the utmost importance. While artificial intelligence can potentially be a potent instrument that may boost human creativity, it cannot substitute for it entirely.

Limitations of Generating Images from AI
When it comes to generating images that genuinely portray the richness and complexity of Islamic architectural legacy, Sukkar's research dug into the convergence of artificial intelligence and Islamic architecture, demonstrating both the possibilities and limitations of automated systems.
The study identified several factors contributing to discrepancies by examining historical sources and comparing AI-generated outputs. These factors include the limitations of prompts used in image generation, the difficulties of accurately capturing regional and historical architectural styles, and the challenges of providing complicated architectural elements with fidelity.
While noting that AI image generators can inspire creative design concepts, the study recommended their integration with deeply entrenched architectural expertise and attention to cultural sensitivities. The study advocated judicious exploitation of AI image generators in Islamic architectural design processes.
Sukkar emphasized that the personal touch, craftsmanship, and cultural sensitivity that are essential components of architecture in this setting should be preserved and not disregarded. One of the most important things is to find a balance, and artificial intelligence should be viewed as a sophisticated instrument that can enhance human creativity rather than completely replace it.
