Roadway tunnels at Wayne County Airport are scheduled to undergo significant restoration, resulting in increased traffic for passengers using those tunnels, which will begin this January. It will take them three years to complete the rehabilitation of the airport, but the good news is there won't be any disruptions to the access to parking lots.
Multi-Project Construction on Wayne County Airport
On Monday, Jan. 8, the initial phase of a multi-project construction project aimed at repairing roadway tunnels on Dingell Drive is expected to start by the Wayne County Airport Authority. In the vicinity of the McNamara Terminal, the improvements will affect traffic flow on Dingell Drive, which extends from the Evans Terminal to the Eureka Road exit and entrance ramps.
Toebe Construction was given the contract for the first project included in the program, which was worth $85.5 million, by the WCAA in September of 2023. Moreover, as long as the weather permits, the number of lanes available for traffic on Dingell Drive will be reduced to two in northbound and southbound directions until Feb. 29.
After that, beginning in March and continuing until mid-2025, the northbound congestion on Dingell Drive will be limited to a single lane. Travelers may encounter inconveniences while driving on the DTW campus during this period. People who are leaving are strongly recommended to prepare in advance and allow more time to get to their destination gate. Thus, there will be no problems with the provision of parking decks, lots, or the Westin Hotel.
Aside from the other airport infrastructure, the primary project of the Dingell Drive Tunnels and Roadway Rehabilitation Program encompasses a range of enhancements to the communications and monitoring systems, electrical systems, fire protection, lighting, overhead signage, roadway surface, and ventilation. In addition, it also involves repair work and enhancements to stormwater collection in the tunnels.
Rehabilitating the exterior waterproofing and drainage systems of the south and north tunnels constitutes the second project currently in the planning phases. The WCAA anticipates that the second project will begin in the year 2025. Furthermore, ongoing construction will be carried out throughout the year until the planned completion in 2027.

How To Avoid Getting Late For a Flight

But planes that leave late at night are highly uncommon; according to FiveThirtyEight, they only account for two percent of all booked domestic departures.
