Volvo's New Electric Construction Equipment

At their recent event, the company demonstrated an assortment of novel battery electric machines in Eskilstuna, Sweden, and previously introduced electric solutions, including the 23-ton EC230 Electric excavator and the tethered EW240 Electric MH. Accordingly, Volvo will progressively introduce limited quantities of the L90 Electric and L120 Electric wheel loaders into select markets beginning in 2025. Among these is the EWR150 Electric, Volvo's first electric wheeled excavator.

Moreover, they are launching the PU40 transportable energy storage system, designed for compact equipment to enable remote charging of construction machinery without access to a power grid. The Volvo L120 Electric is the first wheel loader with a six-ton lifting capability to be introduced to the market. It is an invaluable partner for various activities, including ports, logistics centers, construction sites, waste management and recycling, the maintenance of urban infrastructure, agriculture, and forestry.

Volvo CE asserts that the 15-tonne L90 Electric Wheel Loader, the inaugural electric wheel loader in its category, is a versatile machine appropriate for an extensive array of assignments. Like the L120 Electric, it has electric motors for the drive and hydraulics. It is also distinguished by a quicker response and shorter cycle durations than conventional models. This is because it can harness the full power of both systems.

On the other hand, when it comes to making the shift to electromobility easier, access to charging is one of the most essential difficulties that needs to be solved. With its small size, portability, and user-friendliness, the Volvo PU40 Power Unit can charge various electrical devices on-site, including Volvo compact electric machines and other brands of compact electric machines and accessories like saws and drills.

Positive Effect of This Electric-Powered Wheel

Volvo CE is expanding its product portfolio into new markets by introducing these electric solutions, which range in size from 15 to 20 tons. In addition, they enable clients to work in low-carbon zones and noise-sensitive regions, inside without additional ventilation systems, and outside of conventional working hours. It is made possible by the absence of exhaust emissions and the operational quietness of the machinery.

Also, the machines deliver an average decrease in energy costs of sixty-five percent, a reduction in maintenance costs of 30%, and the absence of any consumables associated with the engine, which makes them an economical solution for the contemporary workplace. They exhibit comparable, if not superior, performance to diesel-powered vehicles. Operators also claim that the working circumstances are more pleasant, they experience less weariness, and they communicate more effectively when there is less noise, vibrations, and heat.

According to Carl Slotte, Head of Sales Region Europe, Volvo Days is a testament to the company's progress in electromobility since its inaugural commercial launch in 2019. The gathering showcases various electric machines and charging solutions, further enhanced by multiple intelligent digital tools. Furthermore, more clients will be able to decarbonize their operations and capture new business opportunities as an increasing number of societies worldwide migrate to a low-carbon future as a result of the initiatives that the company is taking to electrify medium and heavy-segment machines.
