Enhancement of Facilities

On Tuesday, June 4, the United States Army Chief of Engineers, Lieutenant General Scott Spellmon, was invited to visit the 7th Engineer Brigade as part of the Resolute Castle 2024 exercise. As mentioned, the 7th Engineer Brigade worked with the North Macedonian armed forces to organize the event.

All the construction projects are now geared toward preparing the groundwork for introducing heavy armor into the Krivolak Training Area to conduct joint training with the North Macedonian military. Among these initiatives are a motor pool, an airport for unmanned aerial systems (UAS), a target storage warehouse, a heavy vehicle wash rack, and modifications to range roads.

Spellmon asserted that this is a beautiful opportunity for the engineering battalions now deployed to participate in collective training. As engineers, they only sometimes receive this type of training at their home station. Engineers refrain from engaging in combat nor construct structures independently; they must seek assistance from their international counterparts, including the Navy Seabees who are present. They reportedly work together to accomplish this goal.

As per Brigadier General John Lloyd, who is the division commander of the United States Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division, the impact of this exercise is not limited to construction alone; instead, it has the potential to enhance interoperability and overall readiness across all of our partner nations, which will ultimately be to everyone's mutual benefit.

By enhancing the infrastructure of the training area, RC24 will ultimately result in an improved level of training for both North Macedonian and United States military personnel which will be a mutually beneficial exercise. While the cement is still drying, the leaders of both countries are already looking forward to expanding the scope of this collaboration even further.

About Resolute Castle 2024

Resolute Castle is a multinational, collaborative activity the United States Army coordinates in Europe and Africa. It encompasses real-world building projects that boost training capabilities in various parts of Europe's eastern member-states. It brings together the United States Army Reserve and the National Guard, providing possibilities for engineering unit training between ally nations and partner nations.

On the other hand, an Army engineer company from the United States taking part in Resolute Castle 24 will get the value of horizontal engineer building machinery from the Eygelshoven APS-2 worksite. This equipment includes over 150 essential end items like bulldozers, scrapers, and backhoes. Roads and other horizontal projects, including parking, storage, and staging areas, can be constructed using horizontal engineer construction equipment.

The United States Army Reserve, the National Guard, and engineering units from friendly and partner nations will all have the opportunity to participate in training at Resolute Castle 2024. As part of the effort, real-world construction projects will be completed to significantly improve training capabilities in several different regions of the eastern member nations of Europe. Nevertheless, by providing enhancements to the infrastructure already in place, Resolute Castle is intended to strengthen regional alliances and foster interoperability with the forces of the host land.
